This is Friday morning. I am up at 5:00am working toward shoving off at 10:00am to take Dolly down to Station Key West in preparation for the Swim Around KW tomorrow.
There is a low-pressure system in the Gulf which has kept us cloudy and rainy for 3 days and promises to keep us cloudy and rainy for at least 5 more days. This morning it is stalled just off the Yucatan Peninsula. It “may” turn into a tropical depression and become “Debby” but no word on that this morning. Winds are from the south at around 15mph today and tomorrow so we’ll go down to KW on the Gulf side of the islands. That will protect us from the wind and should keep us is less than 3ft seas. Regardless, we are gonna get wet, wet, wet today and tomorrow. 50% chance of rain today and 60% tomorrow. I am praying that they will cancel the Swim so I can stay home and dry!!!!!!!!! We’ll find out at around 9:00am this morning.
My new VHF Marine radio came in right on time from Amazon (prime). One day shipping was only $4. I’ll need to plug it in but the radio part should work fine. It will take longer to hook it up to the GPS and install it’s MMSI number. (complex automatic emergency broadcast system). I will explain it all later.
I also acquired a battery operated megaphone or loud hailer to use tomorrow when trying to communicate with boat traffic. Should make out job somewhat easier if it’s voice quality is OK. We’ll see what we see.
Well it is 6:27am, I have breakfasted already and am about to go get cleaned up and dressed. Got to go ice down the boat and get some water and other drinks on board. Should be a fun day. _________________
